UFC 140 Post Fight Interviews...

Post Fight Interviews, a fighters perspective on how they felt during and after the fight.

FIGHT OF THE NIGHT went to Jones and Machida, this was the time that Jones faced a different kind of fighter and he did admit that he had a hard time figuring out Machida during the first round. The second round was the time that his confidence was boosted after he hit Machida with an elbow, when they were on the ground.

At first, I was not happy with how Mir broke Big Nog's arms. However, looking back at things, there is no way the Big Nog would submit. No way, with his Brazilian pride and being a legend. Hence, Mir's mind set was right, if he wont tap he got to do to do what he is supposed to do. I remembered watching the fight between Sakuraba and Renzo Gracie, and Renzo was caught deep with, also a Kimura but he did not tap. Post fight, Renzo admitted that he would never tap despite of how tight and unescable it was...that's the pride that I am referring about for the Legend Noguiera. He wont Tap so what else would Mir do? if it were a guillotine or RNC Big NOg would be sleeping but its an arm lock....and boom its a snap.

MIR got the Submission of the Night. Probably the submission of the Century, given it was done to a Legend.

Moral of the story for practitioners, please do TAP, this is a career ender especially for upcoming fighters.

and KNOCK OUT OF THE NIGHT went to the Korean Zombie....7 seconds a good counter. And indeed it was very frustrating for Hominick..fastest knock out in UFC history. Man its in the books now. Hominick got to pray that Brock will be knocked out in 5 seconds to erase that record ha ha ha....

Peace Everyone :)

RULES OF ENGAGEMENT 101

UFC 140 JONES VS MACHIDA

Main Card

Jones vs Machida

Mir vs Nogueira

Ortiz vs Nogueira

Patrick vs Ebersole

Hominick vs Jung

With the countdown to UFC 140 winding down to just a few days, the television promo for Saturday's championship fight runs more frequently to build up an event that is centered around the motto of "Art comes alive."

There's no denying that both Lyoto Machida and Jon Jones are two of the most technically sound fighters in the Light Heavyweight division; but sometimes technique can make for boring fights. Only true MMA fans will appreciate the type of precise striking and defensive maneuvers that will take place between Machida and Jones. However, if you're the type of fan that enjoys an all-out brawl with a big knockout ending, then you may want to hold off on forking over those $65 to watch it at home.

Flying knees, spinning back-elbows and wild kicks are just a few of the mind-blowing moves Jones possesses in his arsenal. But until now, he's faced opponents who enjoy standing toe-to-toe and banging out victories. The concept of beating Jones to the punch is an unimaginable feat considering he has the longest reach in the UFC at 84.5 inches. Which is why all of his opponents have failed miserably with their aggressive nature.

Machida presents a completely different game plan that no other fighter is capable of mimicking. For years many fighters were unable to find a way to defeat Machida when he was on his way to winning the Light Heavyweight championship. Like Jones, Machida's masterful technique and quickness present a number of problems for aggressive opponents.

So why do these two skillful fighters make for a dull fight?

A lot of defense is going to be played here on the part of Machida. The karate fighter's style employs swift in-and-out attacks and lots of moving around the cage. This is no knock to Machida as a fighter; but that evasive style will make Jones just look average in the cage.

Jones will probably do a lot striking from the outside and use leg kicks to wear down Machida's movement. Also, Jones may be a little more reserved when it comes to unleashing his wild kicks and aerial attacks, because Machida thrives on missed opportunities. One mistake by Jones and he may be on the other end of a flurry.

I truly hope I'm wrong and that Saturday's championship fight will be filled with fast-paced action and a possible finish. But history has shown that the majority of Machida's fights go the distance; and on the four occasions he's finished fights, it's because his opponents either made a mistake or were too aggressive with their attacks thus subjecting them to his style of fighting.

Ali Cali one of Davao's Pride

ALI CALI

The night however, belonged to Davao City pride Ali Cali, who wowed the crowed with his swagger, on-court antics and lightning quick punches to carve out a unanimous decision win over unbeaten Dylan Pablo of Guam.

A former boxer, Cali, who won his debut fight on PXC 24 last August, used his excellent footwork, superb timing and quick hands to outbox Pablo and improve 3-1.

Pablo, who had a chance to snatch the win when he got a full mount on Cali with 1:30minutes remaining in the second round, fell to his loss after winning his first four MMA fights.

“This one’s for you all my countrymen,” said Cali in Filipino

Sapno. The lighter side of the URCC Interim Featherweight Champ

Ricardo M. Sapno III
Interim Featherweight Champ URCC 2011

MMA Davao: thanks for giving us your time and know the lighter side of the champ, know about your preparations and know some of your views about MMA.
Let me start with your alias, how did you get your name" el Matador" ?

This aka was given by Louie Ablin Abucayan, one of my sparring partner and asst. coach during our previous event in submission wrestling conducted at NCCC Mall Davao. Sabi pa nya kasi that i look like mexican and he came up "el Matador" through my middle name "M".

el matador

MMA Davao: What are your thoughts on the title fight at URCCBLACK TIE BRAWL?

I was trained by my parents to be very positive in every endeavor that I have to accomplish, hence , I became the champion of this fight. I thought that I will be facing Eric Kelly for the title fight @ URCC BLACK TIE BRAWL but unfortunately he was replaced by Red Romero, for some reason that Eric Kelly cannot continue and defend his title.

MMA Davao: What do you know about your opponent?

Actually I didn't know a lot about my opponent Red Romero of Yaw Yan, but all i know that he is a tough fighter.

MMA Davao: How did you prepare for this fight against your opponent?

I trained hard, all necessary workout, sparring through kickboxing, juijitsu & judo, & make my self well prepared of course with the help of my coach Bambi Posadas & Dr. Angelito "The Saint" Manguray.

the fighter and the Coach (Mr. Bambi Posadas)

MMA Davao: Romero got you in that deep triangle choke..what were your thoughts? what was running in your mind?

When he got me on that triangle akala ko tapos na ako but sabi ko sa sarili ko that i will never tap until i got a little opening and take that advantage to get out from that position.

MMA Davao: They say MMA is brutal sport and a sport only for non professionals (college grads…etc), Give us your thoughts on this…

Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) is a full contact combat sport that allows the use of both striking and grappling techniques, both standing and on the ground, including boxing, wrestling, jiu-jitsu, muay Thai, kickboxing, karate, judo and other styles.
The roots of modern mixed martial arts can be traced back to the ancient Olympic combat sport of Pankration. Various mixed style contests also took place throughout Europe, Japan and the Pacific Rim during the early 1900s.

I guess it all boils down to the fact that MMA takes the best of all the combat sports, combines them and pits them against each other.

the champ at his office working...a professional by day and
a fighter after work..

I firmly disagree with that claim because me myself is a professional. I graduated Bachelor of Science In Commerce, Major in Management at Holy Cross of Davao college. Also I worked as Area Supervisor of Royal Cargo Combined Logistics her in Davao City. The same with Dr. Angelito” The Saint” Manguray who is a practicing dentist. He is also a champion and loves the said sport. And, for those who are not so familiar with the sport will say it’s brutal. But for those who enjoyed watching it will become a fan and maybe will dream that someday he will be a champion in this kind of sport.

the featherweight champ, the founder and the saint also a champ

MMA Davao: What can you say about MMA in Davao, are the Davawenos prepared for this?

Very much prepared and this is because of the UFC being telecast in known TV station in the country.

to be continued..................................

chillin........................

MMA Davao: how does it feel to have the belt?

Fulfilling and another honor for Dabawenos.

MMA Davao: any words for your fans and other fighters who want to follow your footsteps?

I would to extend my deepest gratitude to all my fans and of course to my fellow fighters. This achievement is not mine alone but for all of us. To other fighters lets continue loving this sport. I believe this is the secret to be a champion.

In behalf of MMA Davao we would like to thank you for taking time in this interview and we hope that you will go a long way on this sport! Our support and Congratulations!!!

LETS GET IT ON!!!!
