Gerenale defeats Xavier in Samal's Smoker Fight

KING'S Sword Martial Art’s Miel Gerenale defeated Jelen Xavier of Tagum Nightmare MMA via unanimous decision during the Smoker Fight Pre-Qualifier held June 22 at the Maxima Resort and Aqua Fun in the Island Garden City of Samal.
The five-footer Gerenale, being the smaller fighter weighing only 98 lbs., subdued the much bigger Xavier with an impressive turning hook kick on the face in the third and final round.
Xavier, who stands 5’4’’ and weighs 112 lbs., was on the advantage as he took an aggressive approach and kept Gerenale at bay in the beginning of the first round. Gerenale was able to pull himself together and began landing a number of kicks and punches towards the end of the first round.
“It was a full-packed action of kicks, knee strikes and punches,” describes Nell Jone Astudillo III of King’s Sword.
Astudillo said that Gerenale’s training in American Bushido Karate and Muay Thai was an advantage to his win. Gerenale was also named Most Promising Fighter of the event after his stellar performance. His bout was also named the Fight of the Day.
Aside from Gerenale, amateur boxers Adrian Benedict Bautista and Rian Alterado from Alterado Xtreme Combat (AXC) also showed promise by beating their respective rivals.
Justin Dayot (220lbs) of Beefit Python’s Pit bested James Larroza (248 lbs) of Nightmare Mixed Martial Arts of Tagum in the main event.
Bautista of AXC overcame Jerry Hilot of Python’s Pit while Dennis Quinonero of Cenojas MMA (CMMA) prevailed over Allan Calit Yasis of Davao City.
Ian Duay of King’s Sword, Brandon Lascuna of Metrolifestyle and Alterado of AXC also axed wins.
“The event showed that there are a lot of enthusiasts who are interested in playing MMA,” organizer Dr. Vince Vicente said.
The event was participated by CMMA, King’s Sword, Pythons Pit, AXC, Nightmare MMA of Tagum, and Ian Garcia of Cebu Yawyan.
The event served as a pre-qualifier to the Smoker Fight XII slated in October. (RJFL)

Davao City heavyweight beats Tagum City in Smoker Fight Pre-Qualifier

Larroza vs Dayot
 DAVAO CITY, June 23 (PNA) -- Heavyweight Justin Dayot of Beefit Python’s Pit based in Davao City landed more punches to beat James Louie Larroza of Tagum Nightmare Mixed Martial Arts in the main event of the Smoker Fight Pre-Qualifier held Saturday at the Maxima Resort and Aqua Fun in Island Garden City of Samal.

The 24-year-old Dayot (220 lbs) started slow but dominated the final two rounds as he threw left-right jabs on the face of Larroza, who suffered a nose bleed in the third round.

The 248-pound Larroza, who absorbed his second straight loss in the stand-up kickboxing match, said that he still wants to fight in the future depending on Dr. Vince Vicente, who organized the event sponsored by Maxima Resort and Aqua Fun.
The smallest fighter among the 14 fighters, diminutive Miel Generale of King’s Sword MMA Davao, took the Best Fighter award. The 5-foot Generale, defeated 5-foot-4 Jelen Xavier of Tagum Nightmare MMA convincingly in their match also voted as the Best Fight among the seven bouts.

The first two fights, both ended via a referee stoppage.
Adrian Benedict Bautista (130 lbs.) of the Alterado Xtreme Combat (AXC) connected right straight jabs on the face of Hilot Jerby (130 lbs.) of Beefit Python’s Pit in the second round.
Dennis Quinonero (121 lbs.) of Cenojas MMA also scored a second round stoppage against Allan Yasis (121 lbs.) of Davao City, who turned his back after absorbing solid body shots.
The other winners were Ian Duay (128 lbs.) of King’s Sword, Brandon Lascuna (121 lbs.) of Metrolifestyle and Rian Alterado (150 lbs.) of AXC.

The winners of the seven-match competition are expected to next see action in the Smoker Fight XII set in October. (PNA)
