VERA is BACK

I have been waiting for so many months on when the TRUTH will be coming back inside the cage. Finally, I think its one of the biggest break that the truth will get and that is, a fight against RUA.

I came across with this news from MMAWEEKLY.COM

With Brian Stann sidelined with an injury, UFC on Fox 4 has a new main event. Former UFC light heavyweight champion Mauricio “Shogun” Rua will shift from UFC 149 in Calgary and fight at UFC on Fox 4 against Brandon Vera instead. UFC officials announced the fight late Wednesday evening.Rua was originally set to fight at the UFC 149 card against Thiago Silva, but his fellow Brazilian fell out due to his long running back problems, and was waiting for a new opponent. Now Rua will move over to the main event slot at UFC on Fox 4 instead on Aug. 4 in Los Angeles. Following a tumultuous three-fight streak where Brandon Vera lost two fights in a row and appeared to lose a third to Thiago Silva, he was given new life in the UFC after his last opponent was suspended due to a failed drug test and their bout was overturned to a no contest.
Vera returned at UFC 137 and won a very controversial decision over former Ultimate Fighter competitor Eliot Marshall last October.

Now Vera gets the chance to face a former UFC champion in the biggest fight he’s had in the last few years.
The new bout between Shogun and Vera will headline the UFC on Fox 4 card and serve as the five round main event for the upcoming show taking place at the Staples Center in Los Angeles.

As for Hector Lombard, there’s been no word whether he will remain on the event or shift to a different card to make his UFC debut.

ONE Fighting Championship™ to host Asia’s Largest MMA Summit in History

10 April 2012 – Singapore: ONE Fighting Championship™ (ONE FC) announced today that it will be hosting the ONE Asia MMA Summit 2012 from 1-3 June 2012. This invitation-only summit will be the largest in history for the sport of mixed martial arts (MMA) in Asia. 150 of the most influential people in Asian MMA are invited for an all-expense paid trip to Singapore at the luxurious S$8 billion Marina Bay Sands, the world’s most expensive resort and casino, to join forces for the benefit of Asian MMA. The region’s leaders from the biggest MMA promotions, the most prominent MMA gyms, the largest global sponsors, the top media companies, and government partners, will all be in attendance. Attendees will have an exclusive opportunity to listen to panels of experts from every corner of the Asian MMA industry, to discuss the rapid development of MMA in Asia, and to collaborate together to enjoy the benefits of the ONE FC Network.

The two-day agenda for ONE Fighting Championship™ Asian MMA Summit 2012 will feature presentations by industry leaders, TV broadcasters, international sponsors, leading gym owners, MMA media influencers, and international MMA stars.

CEO and Owner of ONE Fighting Championship™ Victor Cui said, “In the last six months, we have completely changed the game for the sport of mixed martial arts in Asia. This is a result of the synergistic efforts within the ONE FC Network and the outstanding support from the network’s exclusive partners. My vision is to create the best MMA network in Asia by choosing strategic partnerships made up of only the best promotions, gyms, sponsors, and media companies in the region. The ONE Asia MMA Summit 2012 is an opportunity for us to come together to share ideas, to harness the phenomenal growth of MMA in Asia, and to create opportunities for all.”

Additionally, in view of the skyrocketing demand for ONE FC events and the recent success of the sold-out ONE FC: War of the Lions event in Singapore, ONE Fighting Championship™ has made the decision to upgrade the size of the venue for its upcoming event in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. The iconic 8,000-seater Stadium Negara has now been chosen as the new venue for ONE FC: Destiny of Warriors. The new, confirmed date for the upcoming event in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia is 23 June 2012. KA-POW in DAVAO

by Rudolph Ian Alama

It started as a dare during an evening party...but the end product was a huge event which drew in Davao City's expatriate crowd along with their Filipino friends, family, supporters, employees, colleagues and curious spectators.

KA-POW in
Davao was an amateur boxing event held last May 27, it pitted two Davao City-based Americans in a three-round boxing match. The event was complete with undercards (all-Filipino), licensed referees, judges, beautiful ring girls, photographers, announcers, a boxing ring set in a big gymnasium- The Davao City Recreation Center (Almendras Gym)

The event was initiated by Joseph William "Joe" Magnotti, who  has been boxing since 2011 taking up the sport as a means of losing weight.

"At first it was a dare, I was learning how to box but wanted an opponent to spar with, so I approached some friends. says Joe, a 37-year old Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) businessman. Originally from
New York, Joe a third-generation Italian-American relocated to Davao City in 2009.

One of those who took up the challenge was Daniel Christian, another expatriate who hails from California currently managing a BPO company in the City.  Daniel or Dan moved to Davao City in 2010.

Dan and Joe are among a dozen of young foreign BPO professionals setting up shop in the City. Joe has several outsourcing companies that includes TryBPO and AdSense Flippers which he co-owns with another Californian Justin Cooke who is also based here in
Davao.

Boxing Training

Joe was a heavyset American weighing at 113 kilos when he decided to pick up boxing. Under trainer Nian Shiang Pe, He took up lessons at Marco Polo Davao and had weekly sparring at
Smashville Fitness Center. With boxing Joe was able to slice 34 kilos, During the fight he weighed in at 79 kg.

Dan started training for boxing four months before the scheduled challenge fight. In contrast to Joe, the 6-foot Dan took up boxing just for the fight and the dare.

"I was only supposed to be a sparring match in a local gym, but it kind of grew and grew until we said, hey lets just put on a huge event." Joe said.

It attracted corporate sponsors like Premiere Condoms and FHM Vixens. Proceeds from the fight will be given to the Cancer Patients at the Southern Philippines Medical Center and the Math Literacy Project monitored by the UP Mindanao Community Development Extension Office.

The Fight

The fight had 8 undercard matches pitting amateur boxers which meant that all the fights are three-rounders. The ninth fight featured the much anticipated duel between Dan and Joe.

In the first round, Dan and Joe were sizing up each other, Dan tried to use his longer reach to keep Joe at bay, Dan connected some jabs.

"We wanted to take the first round very easy, beat him up in the second and then pick him apart in the third." Joe recalls their strategy.

But fighting in front of spectators made Joe tense, he was easy target for Dan's jabs and when Joe tried to move in Dan would would grab Joe's head to prevent him from launching his body shots.

By the second round, Joe became more relaxed and started moving in. "Once I relaxed, he couldn't hit me." Joe says.

By the latter part of the second round and then the third round Joe began launching body shots to open Dan up. "I  felt he held his hands too high too much front." Joe describes Dan's defensive stance.

During my talks with Dan before the fight, he talked about fearing Joe's power which he built up during the months he zealously trained in boxing.

By the third round Dan began to be easy target to Joe's one-two body shot head cross. Dan began to tire out. After the final bell rang, the judges decision went in favor of Joe, winning two rounds (rounds 2 and 3).

"It was an awesome experience." says Joe who admires Manny Pacquiao and Ray "boom boom" Mancini.

"I can see it becoming addictive, perhaps a yearly event." Joe tells me of his plans for another Ka-Pow. Perhaps this time he says he would like get some new blood in the mix from the expat community.

The Colt45 URCC XXI WARPATH Result

By: Alfred Johannes T. Gealogo

Isaac Tuling (BeeFit Pythons Pit) makes Charles De Tomas (Yaw Yan Kampilan) quit

Beefit Python’s Isaac Tuling was a picture of frustration in the 1st round. Charles De Tomas had a great game plan that practically took away Tuling’s strikes. No offense to Tuling who eventually won, but he looked like a wrestling dummy in the 1st. Aside from surviving a very nasty kimura that would’ve made others surely tap out, Isaac did not have any answers for Charles’ pressuring on the ropes and takedowns. When not going for a far side armbar or kimura from sidemount, Charles employed some excellent ground and pound that opened up a cut on Tuling’s forehead. When Round 1 ended, it seemed like it was only a matter of time before Tuling would quit. Round 2 was much the same as the 1st with Charles getting the fight on the ground and dominating from the top position. He only needed 31 seconds to win a decision when things were reversed. Charles shot for a takedown and Tuling was able to sprawl and throw punches to his opponents head. Charles tried to continue his takedown but when his arms only grabbed air, he had to tap out due to either exhaustion or Tuling’s hard punches.

Jonathan “Spartan” Sumogat (Cenojas MMA) chokes out MJ Abrillo (Yaw Yan Kampilan)

Cenojas MMA’s Jonathan Sumogat just might be the next big thing from Mindanao. He basically went into the fight with a gameplan and executed it beautifully. Mj Abrillo of Yaw-Yan Kamplian wasn’t able to throw anything as he was immediately taken down and dominated by the “Spartan” Sumogat who used very good ground skills to control his opponent from the top and dish out damage. Abrillo tried to defend but Sumogat’s accurate strikes was just too much and this forced him to give up his back prompting Sumogat to land a rear naked choke that ended the fight at the 6:32 mark of the fight.

Mark “MUGEN” Striegl (Team Buffet ) outclasses Alcer Lozada (Kamphuis-Fabricio)

Mark Striegl of Team Buffet defined dominance in his fight against Alcer Lozada as he took everything Alcer gave and then showed everyone a level of MMA not before seen in the URCC ring. Striegl was calm inside the ring and patiently stayed in the pocket as Lozada threw some head kicks. When Lozada gave the slightest opening, Striegl quickly took down Lozada where he began a Jiu-Jistu clinic. Alcer tried to escape the from the bottom but Team Buffet fighter was able to maintain his position and land some good shots. When they were again standing up, Lozada forced a clinch that proved costly. Mark patiently stayed in the clinch and threw a knee that dropped Lozada setting up a fight ending rear naked choke early in the first round.

Will “The Kill” Chope (Team Buffet) wins war against Angelito “The Saint” Manguray (BeeFit Pythons Pit)

In one of the most anticipated fights on the card, Will Chope and Angelito Manguray spent 2:53 seconds of the first round in a back and forth battle that got the crowd going. 48 year old Manguray proved that age is but a number as he took the fight to the much taller Chop who stood at 6 feet and 4 inches. Will was able to use his 10 inch reach advantage to keep Manguray at bay but the fighting doctor clearly landed much of his power punches and I saw Will get a bit wobbly at least twice. To Chope’s credit, he never let up and kept on attacking and when the fight went to the ground, the much longer Australian who has a love affair with Baguio sunk in a rear naked choke after getting Manguray’s back. At the end of the fight, Chope got the mic from URCC host Boyet Singson and declared that he will be going after Ricardo Sapno’s Featherweight belt.
