Isaac Tuling (BeeFit Pythons Pit) makes Charles De Tomas (Yaw Yan Kampilan) quit

Beefit Python’s Isaac Tuling was a picture of frustration in the 1^st round. Charles De Tomas had a great game plan that practically took away Tuling’s strikes. No offense to Tuling who eventually won, but he looked like a wrestling dummy in the 1^st. Aside from surviving a very nasty kimura that would’ve made others surely tap out, Isaac did not have any answers for Charles’ pressuring on the ropes and takedowns. When not going for a far side armbar or kimura from sidemount, Charles employed some excellent ground and pound that opened up a cut on Tuling’s forehead. When Round 1 ended, it seemed like it was only a matter of time before Tuling would quit. Round 2 was much the same as the 1^st with Charles getting the fight on the ground and dominating from the top position. He only needed 31 seconds to win a decision when things were reversed. Charles shot for a takedown and Tuling was able to sprawl and throw punches to his opponents head. Charles tried to continue his takedown but when his arms only grabbed air, he had to tap out due to either exhaustion or Tuling’s hard punches.

Jonathan “Spartan” Sumogat (Cenojas MMA) chokes out MJ Abrillo (Yaw Yan Kampilan)

Cenojas MMA’s Jonathan Sumogat just might be the next big thing from Mindanao. He basically went into the fight with a gameplan and executed it beautifully. Mj Abrillo of Yaw-Yan Kamplian wasn’t able to throw anything as he was immediately taken down and dominated by the “Spartan” Sumogat who used very good ground skills to control his opponent from the top and dish out damage. Abrillo tried to defend but Sumogat’s accurate strikes was just too much and this forced him to give up his back prompting Sumogat to land a rear naked choke that ended the fight at the 6:32 mark of the fight.

Mark “MUGEN” Striegl (Team Buffet ) outclasses Alcer Lozada (Kamphuis-Fabricio)

Mark Striegl of Team Buffet defined dominance in his fight against Alcer Lozada as he took everything Alcer gave and then showed everyone a level of MMA not before seen in the URCC ring. Striegl was calm inside the ring and patiently stayed in the pocket as Lozada threw some head kicks. When Lozada gave the slightest opening, Striegl quickly took down Lozada where he began a Jiu-Jistu clinic. Alcer tried to escape the from the bottom but Team Buffet fighter was able to maintain his position and land some good shots. When they were again standing up, Lozada forced a clinch that proved costly. Mark patiently stayed in the clinch and threw a knee that dropped Lozada setting up a fight ending rear naked choke early in the first round.

Will “The Kill” Chope (Team Buffet) wins war against Angelito “The Saint” Manguray (BeeFit Pythons Pit)

In one of the most anticipated fights on the card, Will Chope and Angelito Manguray spent 2:53 seconds of the first round in a back and forth battle that got the crowd going. 48 year old Manguray proved that age is but a number as he took the fight to the much taller Chop who stood at 6 feet and 4 inches. Will was able to use his 10 inch reach advantage to keep Manguray at bay but the fighting doctor clearly landed much of his power punches and I saw Will get a bit wobbly at least twice. To Chope’s credit, he never let up and kept on attacking and when the fight went to the ground, the much longer Australian who has a love affair with Baguio sunk in a rear naked choke after getting Manguray’s back. At the end of the fight, Chope got the mic from URCC host Boyet Singson and declared that he will be going after Ricardo Sapno’s Featherweight belt.

XFC3 Gladiator Reborn, Bukidnon

March 4, 2012 Bukidnon State University

Although this is a late one but it did not went pass thru a month, in short “dili pa tanto bahaw.” So what was this  all about? What else… MMA. Its all about MMA activity here in Mindanao. XFC promotions originally from Butuan in cooperation with their Bukidnon counterparts organized an amateur MMA competition in Malaybalay Bukidnon, it’s the 3^rd for XFC but it’s the First for Bukidnon.

And mah participation? Support for the Mindanao event and most of all support for the Davao fighters who did compete in this spectacular event.

The Davao Team Fighters composed of different gyms went ahead. Team Phyton’s  Pit was composed of new upcoming and promising fighters, Jhun Del Valle and Fidel Ballestero headed by their coach Mr. Bambi Posadas; CMMA seasoned fighters was represented by Jonathan  Sumogat and Jilmar Tangayan with their head Coach Mars Cenojas. Allan Trinidad an independent fighter participated also. The group went in advance for the weigh in and press conference.

Fight day, March 4, me and the champs, composed of Ali Cali, Richie Sapno and Dr. Angelito Manguray with theer manager Mr. Otek Durante followed and did a long drive towards Bukidnon. It was indeed a long drive to Bukidnon with  winding roads, some well paved and the rest were still under construction. It was a 4 hour drive from Davao City.

We arrived at the Venue on a perfect timing … we were still able to settle down and help out prep the fighters. I was able to orient the judges of the event on MMA scoring and also help wrap some fighters.

had time to hand wrap some of the fighters...aint this fun :)

just being silly to calm down the fighters and take their butterflies away hehehe

Fight time and Gladiators were focused and finely tuned to compete and the results were astounding!!!

Allan Trinidad gave his best as he dictates the fight from stand-up down to the ground. However, it was a big upset when the fight was reset. Trinidad pounded his opponent as he was on a very dominant side control then was on the top of his opponents gaurd, and they were pushed to the ropes. The ref reset the fight and they were positioned on the center. HJis opponent did an immidiate recovery by going to Trinidads back and did unexpected RNC ending the fight with a submission.

STONECOLD Tangayan showed his tenaciousness as he dominated his opponent with a barrage of punches and dominant grappling skills. finally tapped his opponent out due to punch bombs, like that of a scud missile.

The SPARTAN who in this photo submitted his opponent with a tight RNC after he gave his opponent a pin point accuracy round house to the chin which startled his opponent and woubled, dropping his opopnent down to the ground.

Jhun AFTERSHOCK, on the other hand showed some showmanship with his flashy tang soo do moves and quickness in evading his opponents aggresiveness.  However, Jhun showed his dominance when he pounded his way in to his opponent. His battery of punches did the most damage and ended the fight .

Fidel Ballesteros gave a very impressive fight. he did started out with an amazing stand up but tyrranized and subjogated his opponent with his superb grappling skills. Fight ended up with Ballesteros hammering his opponent on a very dominant position. The ref had to stop the fight.

My congratulations to the Organizers of the event. Mr Alcer Lozada, Sir Atop, Mr. Michael Dennis Lim and the rest of the staff!!!

yes who would have thought that these guys are MMA fighters hahahaha...we guys are just having great fun..post fight photos. they called this pose Japan Japan hehehe

Congratulations to all the fighters! For me all of you are winners, stepping inside the ring makes you a champion in your own right.

Congratulations to the Winners! Team CMMA; Jilmar Tangayan , Jonathan Sumogat and their Coach Mars Cenojas.  Team Phytons Pit; Jhun del Valle, Fidel Ballesteros and Coach Bambi Posadas. To Lorde Yamit and to all who got the big W.

Thanks for the support of our local heroes, Ali Cali, Richie Sapno and Dr. Angelito Maanguray. And also, to the manager of one Mindanao MMA Mr.Otek Durante, thanks.

To those who accompanied and supported the fighters, I don’t remember your names but you are in the fighters hearts. I do remember Sam Babao of CMMA but to the rest my apologies.

Going home was more fun than ever. And the picture speaks a thousand words.

FEB 18..WHATS IN FEB 18?

February is supposedly a love month. A month where individuals express their feelings to their partners. However, for the MMA world here in the Philippines, its a different kind of February where fighters express their feelings of superiority, skill and machismo inside the ring. A month where they can fully show their love ones that they can bang inside the ring. I dont know about this guys, maybe they dedicate thier fights on this season of the hearts for their woman, hehehe.

Nonetheless, here in Davao two of our finest fighters will be competing on the same date on different arenas, different promotions both in Major events. And who am I referring with?

Ale " the young Gun" Cale is pitted against Jesse "the spiderman" Tatiano from Guam, on the main event of PXC 29 at Ynares Sports Arena. and yes its a TITLE FIGHT for the featherweight division.  at what date...yes you guessed it right....Feb 18.

For the same day on another event , the "El Matador" Ricardo Sapno III, will defend his Interim Belt against a tough opponent from Baguio, the lakay group of fighters, Arnold Agapito.
This will be at Baguio a URCC event.

and so my dear MMA fans of Davao...after the14th of february while couples exchange flowers, go on dates and show their affection...on the 18th of Feb, our local fighters will be exchanging affections with their opponents by breaking their opponents faces ..

as for me...dito lang ako sa tabi..... :) , dinaanan na ako ng panahon. Full support tayo sa ating mga fighters syempre!!!

Happy Valentines Everyone!!!
