A Professional NURSE, an MMA fighter JP

MMA DAVAO: hey how are you? what are you upto nowadays?
JP: right now im resting because of my injury.

MMA DAVAO: i heard you have been training a lot, do you have upcoming fights?
JP: yeah ive been training hard for more than a month now in preparation for my cebu fight this coming august 31, i feel so confident about this fight not until i got injured. not sure if i can still go and fight this august 31.

MMA DAVAO: often times there is a prejudice among MMA players and they are surprised to know that there are professionals who does this sport. What is your take on this?
JP: MMA is just another kind of sports, yes it is brutal but its still a sports, this is what we like to do, not everyone has a guts to fight but atleast we do.

MMA DAVAO: people dont know that you are working as a....?
JP: im a professional nurse, thank you for my coworkers who keep watching and supporting me in all of my fights in smokers, and to my head nurse, for changing my scheduled duty during the fight night..

MMA DAVAO: HOws the team? hows the training going on with team mates?
JP: the team is great, a lot of new faces and new friends, training as usual nothing new. we had a lot of newbie who are willing to fight.

MMA DAVAO: In your own opinion, here in Davao, who is the next fighter that you think is the one whom you would test your skills and whom your have an ample respect on his skills that you want to try and have a good match-up?
JP: id like to test my skills on spartan, i think he's one the best here in davao in my weight class, he has a good striking skills and exceptional ground skills, as well as Edward manteza, he's one of the best and respecatable for my own opinion with it comes to work ethic, he makes me look like a baby when we rolled once back to those days when i was a newbie. this 2 guys are undefeated clearly theyre one of the best. even just a sparring session with one of these guys will help me boost my confidence. P.S this is not a call out.

MMA DAVAO: do you believe in match-ups of former team mates like jones vs rashad..etc?
JP: why not! i think it will be a very competitive match, they are both familiars with each other, weakness and strengths. were here to compete our skills. and id like to test my skills on everybody, eventhough i had so much to learn.

MMA DAVAO: why do you think he is a good match for you ?
JP: honestly never think of any specific fighter, but ill fight whoever they put infront of me.

MMA DAVAO: in behalf of smokerfights thank for the interview and we wish you luck in your upcoming fights and also with your career as a...

SMOKERFIGHT - BLOOD KOMPAK 2

Mixed Martial Arts has fast becoming the upcoming sports for Dabawenyos as the Kadayawan Hall of NCCC was almost filled up, despite of the ongoing festivities. We were expecting that since it was THE Kadayawan Festival that the crowd will be divided and that the there will be just an inconsequential group of individuals who are going to witness the MMA event. And to our astonishment Dabawenyos have a solid group of  MMA followers.
On the 17th of August Davao was treated with an MMA cage courtesy of Iflex gym. The experience was different compared to the other events since this was a collaboration with a local tattoo artists competition.

The event was highlighted by the SF pre-qualifier winner Rian Alterado who at this fight showed skill and confidence. Rian of Alterado Extreme Combat showered his opponent with a barrage of srtikes during the earlier round. But Chong Lee Wata was not a push over as he did some good counters. The takedown defense of Aletrado was astounding as he prevented Wata from a good double leg. Wata was not able to escape the near perfect close guard control of Rian which eventually lead to technical execution of  picture perfect triangle choke. It took time for Aletrado to submit a tough never surrender Wata as Alterado slowly scoots his hips towards a proper angle to get the choke. Rian did an alternate armbar from that position then eventually went in for the kill to get the submission that he executed. Aletrado won his debut Amateur MMA fight by Tapping out his tenacious opponent.

T-bone the youngest MMA fighter in the card and the whole Davao, showed great courage and technique as he fought Ron Jon D Masupat of the FlashVal fighting Sytem. both are pin weights and gave everyone a toe toe battle from the beginning of the first round until the last horn blown on the third round. The battle went to the ground as the young T-bone hounded Masupat with relentless submission attempts. MAsupat a never say die fighter was in trouble and was about to be submitted several times by the Teves. Masupat has an iron will and prevailed. Eventually on the final round it was Masupat's stand-up skill and endurance which got the Judges eyes and gave him a majority decision.

Chirstian Dichoso of Pythons Pit took the fight in a weeks notice and showed stand-up proficiency as he got his opponent with several head kicks and stunned Junior Mendoza of Iflex gym. Mendoza who is a well conditioned boxer, also took the fight on a short notice. However the conditioning of the Mendoza got the best of Dichosa and forced the ref to stop the fight and gave Mendoza the win via TKO.
3 grueling rounds of grappling and pounding showed by the two brave warriors. Dennis Quinonero of  CMMA who won on the stand-up pre-qualifiers at SF MAxima was pitted against a formidable opponent from KHJ Koronadal Raynald Tumampos. IT was a non stop ground action as Tumampos despite of the inexorable MUNOZ' like donkey kong ground and pound of Quinonero, was unfaced and refused to surrender. It was a the dominance of Quinonero as he controls his opponent gave the judges to decide Dennis as the winner.

Moralde and Arnaiz  was a stand-up crusade as Donixseal Moralde of Alterado Extreme combat gives a pin point striking accuracy strikes to his never surrender opponent John Ray Arnaiz of KHJ Koronodal. Moralde gave Arnaiz a cut on right eye which prompted the referee to put the fight on halt, have Arnaiz checked by the ring physician. The referee and Arnaiz corner was given a warning that the fight be stopped if the cut enlarges. Despite of the cut Arnaiz the"lionheart" of KHJ Koronodal never showed signs of giving up as Moralde drops a bomb after bomb on Arnaiz. On the third round Arnaiz got his second wind started and fought like a berzerker giving Moralde some problems of his own. The last 10 seconds was HL of Arnaiz as he was able to gain top control fully mounted and did some damaging ground and pound but it was too late as he ran out of time to convince the judges. Domix won the fight via unanimous decision

The crowd went wild as Joseph del Valle a debut fighter from Pythons Pit did this PICTURE ERFECT double leg take down as he slam Serg Jayson head instructor of Nightmare MMA of Tagum down to the canvass. Del Valle did several successful takedowns however Jayson did not let this pass as he brought his A- game by bombarding del Valle with laser point precision strikes and a takedown of his own.with Del Valle on a defensive position covering himself it was just time when Jayson was able to sneak at Del Valle and executed a well timed RNC which prompted the adamantine Del Valle to Tap out.

Congratulations to the MMA Officials for a very unbiased, impartial and legitimate decisions. The group was comprised of Mr. Lito delos Reyes, Mr Abner Luzon and Ricardo Sapno III. Both Delos Reyes and Luzon underwent an MMMA officials seminar under the AMATEUR MMA RULES with Fernando Piccio the straightforward referee of the evening.

Congratulations to all the fighters keep on fighting and for the MMA fans of  Davao Thank you for supporting the sport. Hopefully and eventually the sport will get bigger and Smokerfights would be able to produce caliber fighters that will represent Mindanao on Natoinal and international MMA events.

The night ended giving MMA fans another treat of MMA actions featuring mindanaw's young, raw, potential champion fighters. As Fighters and fans go home they have an additional unforgettable extraordinary  amateur MMA experience brought to you by SMOKERFIHGTS MMA and its event partner Redstar Tattoo.

Ballesteros - like him or hate him - one of Davaos colorful MMA fighter

  • MMA DAVAO: Hey whats up we have 8 questions for you...
    1. there are rumors about you and Eman...have you heard about this? how did this came about
Fidel Ballesteros: This came about when out of nowhere while I'm just enjoying myself at the last smoker event with my teammates out of no where he decided to mention my name to ale Cali believing he can beat me... As you may know something's we believe can also lead to disaster..

    2. what do yout hink about Emanuel Belleza

  • Fidel Ballesteros I think he has heart like he's shown in previous fights and well yeah heart...

    3. how's your training going on and hows your team?
Fidel Ballesteros: Training is great we work hard everyday , we just go to work, we don't go around posting on Facebook "best team of Davao" like some people do here on fb ahem 1/2 of possible heavyweight match up but we have a great momentum behind us, we don't care who the best team is as long as we keep training hard and our fights win or lose showcases our hard work...

    4. anyway, do you want to take this fight?
Fidel Ballesteros: I don't see why I wouldn't take this fight he comes from that old school wave of fighters of Davao with great reputation of winning there for I have more to gain on this than other proposed fights

    5. you have been a very popular choice of some fighters and mma fans in Davao..why is that?
Fidel Ballesteros 5. I'm a popular choice cus I'm an outgoing person which makes it a easier target to be called out or have fighters think they can shut me up but really I get along with most fighters/team who just understands my personality and I guess for those who keep up with us, small group of MMA fighters here in Davao and not media and commercial BS, I guess they know me cus yeah I'm pretty outgoing and I given a show who else can pull off entrance music like I do right.. Haha
I prefer not to fight Davao guys cuz of the city we represent but I have a crush on good match ups.
    6. in a thread i read you calling out a fight for dayot vs llacuna..give us your thoughts about his card
Fidel Ballesteros6. Well it makes sense for those two to fight cus they won both their last fights here in Davao I hope Dayot lives up to his fb post "best team" and get after "split" cus split is a bad boy and has shown in the short list of 3 heavyweight the best of the three. Yes I said it in my opinion better than friend Justin "best" Dayot and other heavy boys.
    7. last word for SF fans and MMA fans in Davao
Fidel Ballesteros7. Smokers has evolved from "street fights" at almendras with ten to twenty ppl watching to a sold out so called "small event" like last aug 17. Which in my opinion wasn't small at all it was successful in many ways maybe even more successful than the last big event.
    8. ooops i forgot do you have any upcoming fights this year?
Fidel Ballesteros18. There are 4 events left for this year I plan to be part of at least three so for those who wants a piece line up, hope you get picked for a slot by the matchmakers and put your big boy pants on
Ps to those who may read this, I didn't re read my answers I just saw the question and answered the best way I can, if you or any are offended by what I've said then you just better know damn well I most likely don't care about your sensitive hearts thank you and god bless

  • MMA DAVAO:

thanks have a great day ahead of you and good luck on your future plans. Fidel Ballesteros  an MMA fighter, member of the Alterado Extreme Combat.

Octagon cage ring in Smoker Fight Blood Kompac 2 in Davao City

DAVAO CITY, Aug. 14 (PNA) – The Smoker Fight Blood Kompac 2 will now be more exciting as the organizers will be using for the first time an octagon cage ring this Saturday night at 7 p.m. at the Kadayawan Hall of NCCC Mall in Matina.

“This octagon cage ring is courtesy of the I-Flex Fitness Gym, who will be allowing us to use it,” said organizer Dr. Vince Vicente of Smoker Fight MMA Promotions last Tuesday at the SCOOP of The Royal Mandaya Hotel.

Vicente has solved already his problem last week after the caretakers of the old boxing ring at the Almendras gym was already reserved for the use of the “ALA-Combra Lakas ng Tunay Boxing” event also slated this Saturday, 6 p.m. but at the Magsaysay Park. Vicente was accompanied at the weekly public service sports program sponsored by TRMH, Genesis 88 Advertising and Auto Center, Mulatto Outdoor Apparel, Beefit Gym and Aerobics, Edge Outdoor and Dexter’s Pizza at The Stadium by I-Flex owner Marco Tamayo, I-Flex gym instructors Yves Ravelo and Jess Jone Sigaya and FV Fighting System instructor Flash Val Casas.

But before Vicente met Tamayo, he was already negotiating with the Cenojas Mixed Martial Arts to use their old octagon ring cage which was no longer used. However, the said octagon, which was the first one used in Davao, still have to be restored which will take a much longer time according to owner Marco Cenojas.

“Hulog ng langit talaga si Sir Marco (Tamayo) dahil meron na pala siyang pinapagawang octagon cage,” said Vicente.

Although local materials were used in the octagon ring of the I-Flex, the size was patterned from the standard rings used in the international competition. Tamayo, who has transferred his Davao gym at his residence at Las Terrazas in Ma-a, said that the original octagon ring will cost half a million pesos.“I really want to help the sport of MMA and boxing that’s why I’m also developing fighters here in Davao,” said Tamayo, who now has an I-Flex gym in Dubai. Tamayo, who usually comes home for the annual Kadayawan Festival, is the 2003 Mr. Philippines World title-holder and a third placer in the 2010 Mr. World Fashion Man held in Italy.

Meanwhile, everything is now set with the MMA or Stand-up match-ups in the SF Blood Kompac 2 that will feature seven pairs coming from Davao, Tagum, Kidapawan and Koronadal City.

Pitted in the main event are Marlon Cruzpero (125 lbs.) of the Alterado Extreme Combat (AXC) Davao and Ramel Eting (127 lbs.) of CMMA-Kidapawan.

Seeing action in the undercard are Joseph del Valle (135 lbs.) of Beefit Python’s Pit vs. Serg Jayson (135 lbs.) of Nightmare MMA-Tagum; Dennis Quinonero (129 lbs.) of CMMA vs. Raynald Tumampos (125 lbs.) of KHJ Combat MMA; John Ray Arnaiz (125 lbs.) of KHJ Combat vs. Donix Seal Moralde (125 lbs.) of AXC; Rian Alterado (138 lbs.) of AXC vs. Chong Lee Wata (140 lbs.) of NMMA; Francis Corales (150 lbs.) of Flash Val Fighting System vs. Mark Luther Ranao (154 lbs.) of AXC; and Ron Jun Masupat (120 lbs.) of FVFS vs.T-Bone Teves (122 lbs.) of Beefit Python’s Pit. Gerenale defeats Xavier in Samal's Smoker Fight

Wednesday, June 26, 2013

KING'S Sword Martial Art’s Miel Gerenale defeated Jelen Xavier of Tagum Nightmare MMA via unanimous decision during the Smoker Fight Pre-Qualifier held June 22 at the Maxima Resort and Aqua Fun in the Island Garden City of Samal.
The five-footer Gerenale, being the smaller fighter weighing only 98 lbs., subdued the much bigger Xavier with an impressive turning hook kick on the face in the third and final round.
Xavier, who stands 5’4’’ and weighs 112 lbs., was on the advantage as he took an aggressive approach and kept Gerenale at bay in the beginning of the first round. Gerenale was able to pull himself together and began landing a number of kicks and punches towards the end of the first round.
“It was a full-packed action of kicks, knee strikes and punches,” describes Nell Jone Astudillo III of King’s Sword.
Astudillo said that Gerenale’s training in American Bushido Karate and Muay Thai was an advantage to his win. Gerenale was also named Most Promising Fighter of the event after his stellar performance. His bout was also named the Fight of the Day.

A fight that is notable to watch, was the war between a skilled grappler from Laguna Jose Carlo Laurel of Fightworks MMA against a never surrender stand-up tactician Jay Solana of Alterado Extreme Combat, Davao City. It escalated till the end at the co-main event as John Basil of AXC gave a knock out blow, a heavy upper cut which connected to the chin of his noteworthy opponent of Team Nightmare MMA, Panabo City, Serg Jayson.
