DAVAO REPRESENTS at PARANAQUE

I came across with this article and indeed Davao Martial Artists are representing the city with Pride!! This article is copied from DAVAO SUNSTAR..entitled

Discipline, skills key to fighters' conquest

DISCIPLINE, patience and right strategies did the trick for Team Phoenix-Moo Duk Kwan Davao's sterling triple victories in the Ultimate Strikers Championship (USC) 5 Saturday at the SM Bicutan in ParaƱaque City.

"Our players were very disciplined and patient. We instructed them not to brawl early and to study their taller and bigger opponents. What happened at the USC 5 was a very good break for Davao Muay Thai players," head coach Edgar Alan Paulino said. "Hopefully we can bring more Davao talents to compete in Manila."

Steve "Red Knight" Grandeza hacked out a knockout victory over Francis "Baguio" Romero while Rudy "4K Kevkatchi" Tacogue beat Christopher Tamayo via unanimous decision and Carlo "Red Rock" Laude scored a third round knockout win over Manuel "Cobra" Silvano of Quezon City.

"We are happy with the result. We performed well considering that our rivals were more seasoned in Muay Thai competitions than us. But there is no time to relax though as I will resume rigid training for my world title fight in Dubai on Oct. 1," Grandeza said in yesterday's Davao Sportswriters Association (DSA) Forum at the Tower Inn.

Assistant coach Bryan Grandeza also praised the performances of their wards saying.

"They really had good preparation and listened to us very well," Grandeza said.

Laude, a first Dan MDK blackbelt, said he didn't expect to win as it was his first time to compete in full contact sport.

"It was also my first time to compete in Muay Thai and to had done so outside the city. It was really a whole new experience for me and I'm so happy. I thanked my coaches for their help with my techniques. My ears were just attuned to them during the fight and I didn't even listen to the referee's reminders," Laude said.

Tacogue, a former sparring partner of the world's pound-for-pound boxer Manny Pacquaio, said he looks forward to competing in more Muay Thai tournaments.
"I quit boxing when I had an injury yet now I'm into Muay Thai and I'm enjoying it," Tacogue said in the vernacular.

Steve Grandeza said he will face a Ghana fighter in Dubai.

"We will study his fights over the net. But I think I have an edge over him since he had nowhere to see my fights. I didn't upload any video of my fights so as not to give my opponents any idea," he said.

The team thanked Davao City Mayor Inday Sara Duterte and Vice Mayor Rody R. Duterte, Dennis Uy of Phoenix Fuel and Christopher "Bong" Go for their support.

3rd Smoker Fight

Since there were several requests from the fighters and some enthusiasts, there will be a second smoker fight this 20th of August 2010 at NCC MALL, 6 in the afternoon. This time it is an open invitational, for those willing individuals who would want to experience fighting inside the ring. It will be one heck of a day and by this we hope to achieve our goal which is helping the fighters have the feel of competing. It is a non sanctioned fight and only for amateurs. Together with Tattoo artists, bikers, hard rock metal bands and vintage car enthusiasts, an alliance, a whole new total experience, a rare event.

BJJ Seminar with Mr. Alvin Aguilar

MMA is on its way to be the next big thing here in Davao. Or maybe it is already a big thing. One of the must component for an MMA practitioner is ground game. And which martial arts dominate the ground? Yep you answered it right BJJ. BJJ meaning Break Jerks Joints? no...it is Brazilian Jujitsu. Davao practitioners will be privileged to have a BJJ black belt conduct a seminar, here in the Durian Capital.

I received this letter from the trainer and coach of Deftac - Ribeiro Jiu-jitsu Davao, Mr. Paolo Javier...

Hi Guys,

I would like to invite you, as well as your students to the Alvin Aguilar seminar this coming August 19 & 20, 6 p.m. at Matina South Health Studio, Centerpoint Mall, Matina, Davao City.

head of Deftac-Ribeiro Jiu-jitsu/Gracie Humaita. He was recently awarded his 1st degree on his black belt by Royler Gracie and Saulo Ribeiro shortly before competing in this year's mundials. Alvin is also the founder of the URCC.

I hope you guys take advantage of this chance to see Alvin in action and train with him. This seminar is open to all teams in Davao, regardless of experience. So that means even total newbies are welcome to attend!

The seminar costs P1450 for two days and P1050 for one day. However, i suggest you reserve your slots now, and avail of the discounted rate, P1250 for two days and P850 for one day!

Thank you, and i hope we can all help each other make Brazilian Jiu-jitsu grow as a sport here in Davao as well as in the whole Philippines!

Where do you go After a heavy days Work-out?

Working your butts out for a couple of hours is not an easy thing. Lifting weights, running for several minutes, a circuit training which seems never ending and sparring, burns a lot of calories. It increases the body's desire to have everything replenished. Replenish, meaning restore, satiate, satisfy and stuff the body of all the lost water, nutrients and calories burnt during the work-out. Well for the athletes of Edge MMA, one of the nice, affordable, chill place to go is BBQ Boss at Qurino street. I guess most Davaenos know the place but for those who do not then its a dope place to hang-out and chillax. So whats the special? Just look at the menu and drool. Yes, there are enough choices or should I say more than sufficient food to pick. The goal is just to restore the depleted energy store of a body that was battered, assaulted, lambasted, wrecked and trashed by the days beat up. With growling stomachs as loud as a ships horn, not a moments delay a simple but high in protein food was methodized....
And walah..we got what we ordered for, just a few minutes of wait and chit chat, our nourishment is ready. A feast for the eyes and a great deal of satisfaction for the paunch, the moaning, grumbling and snarling tummy. Ha ha ha simple lang ang among gi-order. What else, pork barbecue galore!!! The thing is, it was served fast to appease the voracious group of alpha males flooded with testosterone. And indeed it silenced the famished stomach of the warriors. A couple of bbq on sticks plus several cups of rice and tons of water silenced the blokes. All in all, whats the verdict? Astounding, stupendous, terrific, wicked!!! And the price? economical, competitive and very reasonable!!
A Pitcher of water, a simple but great food and a noteworthy company makes the exhausted and beaten up bods regenerated. Indeed, Invigorated ready to train on the days to come...Lets get it on!!
